Intake Process & Emergency Shelter at Pacific Garden Mission
At Pacific Garden Mission, our goal is to provide a safe and welcoming place for those in need of shelter, meals, and hope in Christ. Below you will find our intake procedures for men and women, along with our cold weather emergency shelter policy.
Intake Process
For Men
- Intakes take place Monday–Friday starting at 7:30 a.m.
- Admission is first-come, first-served.
- We have a limited number of intake slots each day. Once we reach capacity, intakes close until the next business day.
- Please note: coming to the building does not guarantee an intake slot.
For Women
- Women who arrive at our doors and meet intake protocols are admitted based on a first come first serve basis based on intake availability.
- It is rare that we run out of female beds.
Intake Requirements
To be eligible for intake, all guests must:
- Not be a registered sex offender
- Be ambulatory (able to walk independently)
- Not be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or schizoaffective disorder
- If on medication, have medications with you at intake
- Not be on electronic monitoring from IDOC or a county jail (ankle bracelet/GPS)
If an intake slot is available and you meet the above requirements, you will be provided with a bed.
Cold Weather Emergency Shelter
When temperatures drop below 32°F, additional emergency shelter is available:
- Hours: 7:00 p.m. until morning
- If you missed intake and are not permanently restricted, you may be eligible for Emergency Overnight Shelter (EOS).
- Registration: begins daily at 6:30 p.m. at the Booth.
- Capacity: Up to 14 men may be admitted; more may be added at staff discretion.
- Important: If you stay in EOS, you are not eligible for intake the following day—unless intake slots remain after those who did not use EOS are processed.
✅ If you or someone you know needs shelter, please arrive during the appropriate intake times. We will do our best to serve you with compassion, dignity, and the love of Christ.
